At USC, microdisk lasers are tested using
sophisticated measurement equipment. The lasers are mounted on a probe stage
and current is injected through very fine probe tips. |
These probe tips are carefully placed on the contact pads
of the laser diodes by using micropositioners and looking through a microscope
or by using a monitor in conjunction with a vidicon camera. The electrical
characterization data is acquired onto a computer and can subsequently be
analyzed. |
The optical characterization data is also analyzed, by using
an optical spectrum analyzer. The spectral dependence of light emitted from
the lasers is measured by looking for the presence of a lasing resonance.Using
Labview, all these measurements can be automated and data downloaded onto
the computer for further analysis.Click
